Harmonicist

Timothy Yip is a chromatic harmonicist who graduated from King’s College. He achieved the Bachelor’s degree in Music at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. During his study, he was under the tutelage of Cy Leo, a world-renowned harmonicist. He has also received training from Kelvin Leung, Harry Choi and Lee Sheung Ching previously. Influenced by these masters, Timothy has received widespread international recognition and success in harmonica.
Timothy got the first-runner up in the Youth Solo Chromatic Harmonica Category in the Seoul International Harmonica Festival in 2018. Later on, he won the Grand Prix in the Odin International Music Competition in 2021. Recently, he won the championship in Open Chromatic Harmonica Solo at the 13th Asia-Pacific Harmonica Festival and got the second runner-up in the 1st Hong Kong International Chromatic Harmonica Competition.
In 2021, Timothy has appeared as a guest performer and adjudicator in the Seoul International Harmonica Festival. In 2023, he was invited to perform at the prestigious Carnegie Hall in New York as a harmonica soloist. In the harmonica promotion, Timothy joined the RedBricks Harmonica Ensemble and was invited by the Hong Kong government to perform in Shanghai and Heihe. He is currently the harmonica band conductor in King’s College Old Boys’ Association Primary School No.2 and harmonica tutor in King’s College Old Boys’ Association Primary School, St. Paul’s Co-educational College, King’s College and Hotung Secondary School.
